Hi, guys! This is my reflections for my conference!
REFLECTION #1: Math--Unit 8 Math Test (with Open Response)
What did you learn from this assignment?
In unit 8 I learned how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions and mixed numbers. I also had to apply the skill of renaming and reducing fractions. Part A was summative because we have learned this and had opportunities to show our learning before the test. Part B is formative because we are still learning these skills.
The open response problem required me to think critically and explain my thinking. The problem asked me to apply the skills in a multi-step problem. I also had to solve the problem in more than one way. The main focus of the open response is explaining and showing my work.
What are you proud of on this assignment?
I am proud of most of my work, especially that I showed my work well on my open response. Also, I am proud that I did pretty well on the test.
Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve?
I definitely could’ve improved my grade and got a perfect score if I just slowed down and didn’t hurry because I made a mistake where I did everything correctly, and accidentally changed the denominator.
My goal for the remainder of the year is to ...
To continue doing good by paying attention, doing my homework and maybe get a better grade.
REFLECTION #2: Science--Invention Convention
What did you learn from this assignment?
The invention project was a month long project that started with an idea to solve a problem. During the process I thought of a solution, designed the invention, tested the invention, documented the process, and finally presented to a panel of judges. My invention had to fit within the theme of “Reduce, Reuse, or Recycle”.
What are you proud of on this assignment?
I am proud of my invention, I think I did alright on it. I am also proud of my display.
Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve?
I could definitely improve my presentation because I forgot to mention the how my invention relates to the theme even though it was in my script and it had a severe effect in my grade. I also think I should’ve been louder in my presentation because I wasn’t talking very loudly in my presentations, especially my first one.
My goal for the remainder of the year is to ...
To get more prepared for presentation, since I took too much time thinking about my invention and I ended up getting a bad invention, and I had to rush my work later. Also, I think I should work on how I present since my presentations became a mess.
REFLECTION #3: Literature Circle--Book Quilt
What did you learn from this assignment?
After I participated in Literature Circles I created a book quilt. I had to identify the theme of the book and support it with evidence from the book. I also had to come up with an illustration and symbols that represented the theme of the book. This activity taught me about an author’s purpose for writing and how to support my ideas with evidence.
What are you proud of on this assignment?
I am proud of my work, I think I didn’t do so bad. I am also proud that I improved on explaining my theme or opinion because I was very bad at it.
Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve?
I think I could’ve improved my endings for my paragraphs because I didn’t have anything to close the paragraphs. Also, I think I could’ve improved my drawing and the symbols for my border because just by looking at it, you can’t understand what I am trying to say clearly.
My goal for the remainder of the year is to ...
Try harder, and try to improve my writing skills more since I am still bad at explaining my thoughts and how to open and close paragraphs and just basic skills of writing.
REFLECTION #4: Unit 4 Reading Street Test
What did you learn from this assignment?
The unit reading test is taken after we complete our reading unit. This unit we learned the following reading strategies: questioning, predicting, generalizing, drawing conclusions, visualizing, and using graphic sources. We also learned a lot of grammar in this unit.
In this test we had to read a passage and answer questions about the reading. We had to apply the reading strategies to demonstrate our understanding. This test helped me find out what I need to work on.
What are you proud of on this assignment?
I am proud that I successfully completed most of the parts. Also, I am proud that I was better on some of the things I needed to work on in the last test.
Reflecting back on your work, what could you improve?
I could’ve taken more time and consider my answers and I think would’ve done way better. Also, I can improve my skills to figure out what an unfamiliar word might mean, the sequence of a story, and to find out the author’s purpose.
My goal for the remainder of the year is to...
Get better on the things that I need to work on, especially the unfamiliar words one, because I saw that on my previous tests.
